I would recommend the Yamaha Band Student band method book for clarinets. I
learned out of that book, and it has some interesting pieces to practice on.
This book is great for beginners because it starts slowly and has the complete
fingering chart in the front of the book. This one also has a practice
calendar on the second page. For students of the second year move on to
Essential Elements Book One. This book shows you how to flat notes, play
alternate fingerings for notes, uses rests often, emphasizes dynamics , and
teaches all required note forms for second year: quarter notes, staccato,
eighth notes, sixteenth notes, dotted quarter notes, and so on. Both of these
books are available for all instruments, so if you are thinking of something
for beginning band students they are wonderful- they take the same exact
pieces and drills and arrange them for each instrument. Played together in a
band they are wonderful together. Also, these books progress with the
students and you can skip over some, or rearrange the order if you like.
Essential Elements book one has all of the major scales in it, and a chromatic
scale. This also holds a fingering chart in the back of it. I hope I could
be of some help.
