I know Reginald Kell makes use of vibrato, but not as extensively as
other performers. Last time I heard Richard Stolzman live in concert
(?March?); I sat about 8-feet from him... and he used ALOT of vibrato. Jaw
vibrato occasionally! He played several pieces with vibrato: Prelude
taneczne by Witold Lutoslawski, GRA by Elliot Carter, and Air by Toro
Takemitsu; and think he may have used a little in Prokofiev's Sonata in D
major as well.
I'm sure that there are other major performers who use this technique;
and anyone of them who use it should be enough to put us all to same for
criticizing them; 'cause I don't know about you... but I'd give anything to
be able to play like Stolzman!
