As requested by several members, here is more information about the music my
woodwind ensemble "The SeaWinds" (flute, oboe, clarinet) played at Sunday's
service at the Cross Mills Baptist Church in Charlestown, RI. We were simply
given the theme "Music for Soul" and could choose any music we wanted to
share. This is a tradition the church keeps during the summer months. Guest
musicians are invited to play each Sunday. An honorarium of $35 is offered.

We played 15 minutes prior to the service and again during the Offertory. We
chose a Leclair Musette from "Eighteen Trios from the Classical Masters" (for
two flutes and clarinet or flute, oboe, and clarinet) from Southern Music Co.,
San Antonio, TX. We also played a couple of selections (Haydn and Mozart) from
the Himie Voxman woodwind trio series from Rubank (Milwaukee, WI). The hymns
we chose were from a collection called "Play a Song of America" arranged by
Ruth Zimmerman (Theodore Presser Company, Bryn Mawr, PA) and from the
"Americana Collection" band book (Rubank/Hal Leonard). To the hymns, we added
a descant part from "Hymns & Descants for Trumpet" from Mel Bay Publications,
Pacific, MO. Amazingly, the trumpet descants for the hymns that we selected
were in the correct key for either the oboe or clarinet. In some cases, Kathy
played the descant on oboe; in other cases, I played the descant on clarinet.
The spiritual "Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow" that we played during the
Offertory is from a flute trio series. The clarinet part was transposed from
3rd flute. I can get more information on the flute trio series if anyone is
interested.
