You have touched on a subject for which there are a variety of
opposing opinions. Obviously your teacher has an opinion and it happens
to be in opposition to vibrato. (I do not distinguish between
vibrato on any of the clarinet family so my remarks are not intended
to suggest that the highly and emotionally charged subject is related
to only a single member of the family.)

I warmly suggest that you review the many discussions that have
taken place on this list by seraching sneezy archives with the
keyword "Vibrato." You will find many view, several of them
very well said.

After you have read those views you must make up your own mind. The
problem is too complex for such a simplistic answer as "Never do it,"
or "Do it all the time."
