I happen to agree with Mr. Blumberg. A teacher certainly can teach good
tone quality. Just listening to recordings has improved my playing a
little bit. Tone quality will vary based on who is listening, but it
can be taught, I think. I am lucky that my teacher has excellent tone
(even though he is a french horn player). If you don't know what good
clarinet playing sounds like how can you ever hope to get it right?
