Greetings,
I have recently started to experiment with mouthpieces after many years of
satisfaction. I have played exclusively on Pyne mouthpieces for the last ten
years, in fact, James Pyne is a former teacher of mine for whom I have the
highest respect. He is also a very busy man these days in preparation for
Clarfest, so scheduling a mouthpiece session with him is difficult. As a
result I decided to try the new Vandorens, as a friend of mine had spoken
favorably of them. The results were unusually satisfactory for me. The
Vandoren M-13 lyre is such a surprisingly good stock mouthpiece, I still can't
get over it. I think I've been such a custom-mouthpiece snob for so long, I
would never have bothered to try a stock mouthpiece (at least not since high
school). I understand that Donald Montanaro helped design this mouthpiece.
Does anyone else have any information as to the background in the design of
this mouthpiece. Is it inspired by Kaspars or Chedeville or both?
thanks,
Ciao
Mario Estrada
