This hit home with me. I was taught clarinet initially by a violinist. To this
day, I tend to use the left-hand Eb sliver key instead of the side trill key
because that is how he taught me to play the appropriate notes. By contrast, I
know a professional clarinetist who NEVER uses the sliver key and has it
wedged in place semi-permanently.
