I'm hoping someone will be able to help me sort out a difficulty I have. I
teach a beginner group of 5 at our local music school - classes are run on a
Saturday morning. I've got one kid in this group who is the best beginner
I've ever seen. Two weeks ago I told them to go home and practice the E/B
jump to get them used to to the register key. This kid came back the next
week playing every note up to high C beautifully in tune and with a really
nice tone - half my second-year classes can't do that! One of the exercises
in the book I use is transposition - playing "Bobby Shaftoe" in about 4
different keys without music, and this kid did it perfectly the first time
he tried it. His general musical knowledge is also fantastic, he has no
embouchure problems and he never plays wrong notes! The problem is, the
rest of the class is nowhere near his level. One kid is having serious
problems working the register key and so he's falling behind. What can I
do? I don't want to bore anyone, but I can't let people fall back either.
Any suggestions?

Thanks
Anna
