The Poulenc Sonata is very cool--but most folks in the audience won't know
that the 2 clarinets are in different keys.

One fun thing to do is to switch clarinets (& parts) between movements.

I have also heard this piece done w/ 1 Eb and 1 D clarinet. It was pretty
squeaky.

Subject: [kl] Mixed clarinet duets

Does anyone out there know of good duets for different clarinets (like
Eefer,
and Bb, Bb and bass, bass and contra, etc.). All I can find is a duet for A
clarinet and Bb clarinet called "Sonata" by Francis Poulenc. What is this
piece like to those who have played it?
The reason I need to find some is because our community band is doing some
music to highlight our hard-working principle clarinet players in each
clarinet section.
I have no idea why the conductor wants duets, and nothing larger. Perhaps
she
wants the different clarinets to be heard better. (Like if you had a mixed
quartet, the alto might be hard to pick out.)
