Corny indeed. Cornier if your wind ensemble plays it (a) with the entire
clarinet section on the solo part standing up out front, (b) really, really
fast (c) on 3 rehearsals.
Now, I absolutely hate everything that Leroy Anderson has ever written.
Because I am about three times the age of your average high schooler, I've
had to play Sleigh Ride etc. only a zillion times--feels like the whip is
directed at my psyche. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em.
But, the audience for whatever reason eats this stuff up. Especially in a
summer parks concert (Clarinet candy, that is--obviously Sleigh Ride has
other uses). Gotta do it.

Our band, which is a high school band (some eighth graders, mostly 9-12, a
pretty good band) just recently played this piece, and I'm not sure I would
recommend it without reservation. It's almost unbearably corny, for one
thing, and it isn't in the least interesting for the band or other
accompaniment. At least, I don't think it is. I'm not sure there is a piano
version, although it would make sense if there were. I think it has a Clar.
1 and Clar 2-3 or separate parts in the arrangement I'm familiar with. It
shouldn't be played with more than two clarinets on each part, either,
because it goes rather high (altissimo G for seven bars at the end, high).
It's pretty easy for accomplished players, although our younger players
found it pretty difficult. Fast though. There are some fingering
difficulties that I had with it. Probably a month or two of rehearsals is
enough. That's about all I know.
