Having been a list member for more than four years now, I know that my 31-year
break from playing clarinet (1955-1986) didn't set any records. As as a high-
level amateur player I have reasonably good musical performance skills, but I
lack a fundamental knowledge of music. So I'm seriously considering taking
an early retirement from careers in science & engineering, and most recently
fundraising, to enroll in a local community college to study music seriously.
I'm not sure where such an adventure would lead me, but I was wondering if any
of you on the list who were significantly older than the typical 18 year old
freshman had ever pursued a similar path? Or have any of you college
educators taught similar "retreads" in your classrooms? Any help would be
greatly appreciated either via KLARINET or personally.
