Subj: [kl] marketing buzzwords & other misconceptions

All the recent discussion on various brands of instruments has intrigued me.
It is interesting and amusing to see people referring to certain brands using
that company's marketing buzzwords/slogans and propoganda. Leblanc is the
biggest offender in this area - what is a more direct or youthful tone anyway!
My favorite is the contradicting " entry-level professional instrument" which
at least one lister used to describe a Leblanc clarinet (which appears
verbatim in their catalog) to a potential buyer. Even though I find such
subjective descriptions of a visible, tangible, and audible object annoying
and pointless, the Leblanc corporation are no less than marketing geniuses.
On this alone - excellent products, but by no means superior to
Buffet/Yamaha/Selmer's best - Leblanc has seriously challenged Buffet's long-
standing professional level clarinet supremacy among American players.
Buffet makes a great product and uses a fact based approach when describing
their instruments. At this time, Buffet doesn't seem and/or need to rely on
heavy, real-world marketing techniques due to their prestigious reputation.
How many Buffet endorser/artists do you see pimping their instruments at any
and every conference, recital, masterclass, appearance, etc.? Sadly, Buffet's
reserved marketing scheme - or lack thereof - will hurt sales in the future
and they will be forced to market their products more aggressively... ala
Leblanc.
The point of this topic was not to slam the companies mentioned above or any
individuals, but to hopefully make you, the consumer aware of what you're
being brainwashed into believing. Don't worry, it was all subconscious!
