I'll tell you where they go when they are not being used anymore. They take
the keys off, and CRUSH THEM!! This is a great example of the waste of the
US. Gvt. because of their "once it enters the system, it doesn't leave"
policy. I was told that a number of years ago by the repairman Mark Jacobi
(he sets up a lot of the Washington DC. Service Band Clarinets).

Actually the instruments the gov't buys for us are usually bought at cost or
close to it. Remember that the military bands are a dying breed and we barely
get enough money to but enough reeds for the whole year much less spend
billions of dollars on instruments. We just had to get rid of Three
perfectly good Selmer Recital Series instruments, because we weren't
authorized to have them...hummm. I wonder who gets them now....We aren't
sure where they go, but we sure don't get the money for them.
