To clarify the question about chords.....

first.... Co(c diminished) is spelled C Eb Gb and Bbb(or A enharmonic)
C half diminished or Cm7b5 always functions as a minor II chord
progressing to a V7b9 to i or used in a cycle. Diminished chords are used to
add color over dominant harmony or to give a chromatic line. C to C#o to D7
to D# dim7 etc.......
A sus chord is a tonality not a harmonic function. A C7sus4 should not
resolve unless the chord change tells you to. Just play C-F-G-Bb and then
play the next chord , do not resolve the 4th.(look at the tune MAIDEN VOYAGE
by Herbie Hancock) the entire song is sus4 chords. Also ,the tune " I Should
Care" by Sammy Cahn use a sus4 in the first measure. Em7-A9sus4-3. In this
example you would resolve the suspension on beat 4 of the measure.
There really is no difference between a C7sus4 and a C9sus4. They both are
chords derived from a pentatonic scale. C-F-G-Bb-D(1-4-5-b7-9).
A good reference for all of these chords and their function are the Jamey
Abersold play along CD's. Vol. 30A is a rhythm section workout for keyboard
players. All the volumes have Bass and Drums on one channel and Piano and
Drums on the other. So you can turn the Balance to the Bass and drums and
play along on the piano. There are also books on piano voicings( which
inversions) by various Jazz piano players. I wish I could give you some names
but I am not a pianist just a saxophonist who knows Jazz theory.
Don't play chords in root position, and don't voice them in root position in
your right hand.
Find a 'fake book' with a lot of GOOD jazz standards, not a bunch of pop
tunes, and start learning them.

Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can email me and I will
respond.
