The liner notes by Charles West from his CD Treasures for Clarinet and Piano
(which he plays the Erwinn Fantasia) makes only this short description....an
abundance of florid cadenzas, a romantic melody in grand operatic style with
its skittering variation and a pompous polonaise are woven together in this
not-too serious musical diversion. By the way this CD is suberb with
virtuoso playing on the Bucolique by Bozza, Hillandale Waltzes, and the
Sonatine by Gabaye. Wilson Audiophile WCD-9127. I believe I purchased it
directly from Mr. West.

Anyone know anything about this piece (historical data)? Is it based on
an opera aria or popular theme of the day? What is that long, lyrical
theme before the actual Theme and Variations begin? I'm performing it
next month and have very little background on the piece, except
composer's dates and date of composition.

Thanks!

Chuck
