Roger Shilcock wrote (paraphrased possibly):
I wonder how many composers think of their music as based on chord
progressions. Other than jazz . . .

I have a personal experience with this from earlier today. I finally got
the 1st 9 bars of my "Amadeus" sypmphony down. (midi format). My method
was - sing a theme in my head, and write out something resembling it in the
Vln 1 of a string quartet (for voice leading). Then, write out the Vlc
(bass of the quartet) in a reasonable succession of notes. Finally, fit
chords to the top and bottom.
I know this method at least resembles that used by the more famous
composers, but it does seem to work for me.

ps - I am willing to post this as I work on it if I could get any input. It
is supposed to be in a "classical" style (specifically, Mozart's).
Instrumentation: Fl. 1 Fl. 2/Picc. - Ob. 1/2 - Cl. 1/2 (in
A) - Hrn. 1/2 (in F or Bb, haven't decided yet) - Bsn. 1/2 -
Timp. - Vln. 1/2 - Vla. - Vlc.
If anyone wants to see what I've done so far, or the final product, I can
send it individually, also. HOWEVER, I will be wanting to copywright this,
so I would be trusting others until I'm finished.
