Well, I've never played a centered tone, so I can't make comparisons.
However, I will tell you that the E-12 is a nice stick, and so is the
Sonata (Hoffman is probably composing an email about it right now singing
about how it can also cut french fries in seventeen different shapes...but
all LeBlanc clarinets do that, we know)...I tend to follow Buffet. I've
no compunction as to which is better, but Buffet is a preference of mine.

Personally, I would look into a used R-13 or a used Opus or Concerto. The
reason I say this is because I've read (and with the Sonata, experienced)
that the E-12 and Sonata have a slightly higher tuning in the upper
registers to 'aid younger players'. While it's not a major concern if
you're talented at lipping down, I might also suggest looking into an E-13
instead of an E-12; it's closer in design to the R-13.
