This probably refers to multiphonics - getting more than one note out of
your stick at once. Not an easy feat on woodwinds (I've tried the brass
method and failed miserably). I've actually never heard it done on a
clartinet truthfully - just on brass. I've seen Ron Wilkinson (a jazz
'bonist) produce four simultaneous chord members...pretty neat stuff...

I don't think ALL virtuosi can do it - some probably can't, or feel no
real need to. Playing multiphonics doesn't make you a virtuoso, that much
is certain.
