From: "Mark A. Bradley" <markb@-----.com> Subj: [kl] Fingerings for Saint Saëns Sonate Date: Sat, 6 Jun 1998 14:04:14 -0400
Hello to all.
I will be performing the final movement of the Saint Saëns Sonate for
clarinet. In one part there is a sixteenth note run that ends with the
last five notes going from high D to altissimo A. The tempo is molto
allegro. Here are the fingerings I have been using:
D | E | F | G | A
RK T |RK T |RK T |RK T |RK T
o | o | o | o | o
* | * | * | * | *
* | * | * | * | *
| | L4| |
* | o | o | * | o
o | o | o | * | o
o | o | o | o | o

What I am asking, is two things:
The "A" played here is really just an E overblown to the A. Is there a
modification of that fingering that would make the overblow easier to
reach? I can't remember offhand but for the overblown A is it the
speaker key (G#/Eb) or the F#/C# key that should be held down?
Is this the easiest or most practical fingering for this particular
sixteenth note run? It starts on a low chalumeau E and continues up to
the A, and it is only the high and altissimo register fingerings which
are difficult. If the description is too vague I can give more
information.
Thanks for any thoughts or help.
