Although there are more qualified people than I on this list to comment
about the original edition of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, I'll offer
the following brief list of places to start to understand the original,
and the editions that have come down to us since 1791.

Start with the Neue Mozart Ausgabe edition of the concerto. A version
with piano reduction is published by Barenreiter (about $20 US) which
shows 1.) Mozart's original clarinet part (as well as we know it) and 2.)
a version for the clarinet as we commonly play it today. Annoyingly
enough, there are some note mistakes in this edition (in the "modern"
clarinet part). There is also a Schott edition, ed. Alan Hacker - the
first of the editions to take into account the extended range of the
basset clarinet.

See the current issue of "The Clarinet" (official journal of the
International Clarinet Association) for an extensive annotated list of
editions.

Find the back issue of "The Clarinet" for William McColl's translation of
the original review of the first published edition on the concerto,
dating from 1802 (I believe - none of this in front of me at the moment).
It explains pretty clearly and in some detail the original downward
compass of the clarinet part, and how the first published edition adapted
this for the "ordinary " clarinet, which extends only to low E.

This only scratches the surface - I'm sure others can add more resource
material to your quest.

BTW I also think the advice to learn the "printed notes" to the concerto
is good - if you can alter the key of the accompaniment, that would be
best for now. Later, if you get an A clarinet or basset clarinet in A,
you won't have to re-learn the notes.
