I seem to have touched off a bit of a firestorm by asking about
reeds and mpcs for my EEb Bundy contra. Meanwhile, I have been
experimenting with some pretty wild bass sax reeds my repairman
found at the bottom of a reed drawer. These things are rounded
at both ends, and have deep grooves cut into the unfinished part
of the reed (the bottom?). They are extremely satisfactory for
the chalemeau register, even producing a kind of didgeridoo rasp
on some notes that I rather enjoy, but do not seem to "speak"
well in the upper register. Otherwise, a Rico Royal #3 bari sax
reed has produced the most satisfactory results. The person who
sold me the horn used 3.5 tenor sax reeds, but I have found this
rather unsatisfactory, thus far.

I'm still thinking of springing $120 for a Selmer C** mouthpiece,
since I find my Bundy #3 extremely suspect. I've seen one vote
for and one against the Selmer, thus far, and would appreciate
more opinions on this matter!

Thanks,
Michael McDonald
