Agreed. I've done that one myself.

It seems a lot of the older orchestral transcriptions had much more interesting parts. I played Poet and Peasant with a small town band about two weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised to hear the alto clarinettist playing the solo and cadenza, rather than the alto sax.

That's funny, I feel the throat tones on the bass clarinet are the warmest sounds on the horn.
