Well, I can't speak for all composers, but because I compose, I can give you
my answer. The reason I would do something like that is because that is the
sound I was looking for. I wanted the timbre of a high register of a
clarinet, not the flute timbre or the Eb timbre. How I hear the music is how
I'm going to write it, not what instrument may be able to play it better.
