Oh, but the timbre between the clarinets is sooooo different! ^_^

Whatever. I don't know if it is or it isn't yet - I haven't taken the
time to find a pro recording of an Eefist yet to compare. Otherwise, I'd
have to compare MY Eb playing to my Bb playing...and man...there's a lot
more than timbre that's different! ^_^

I believe that a lot of composers may write for the Beefer in the extreme
range for two reasons:
1. The eefer is doing something totally different at the moment, in the
same range.
2. They don't think the eefer a prominent enough member to constantly be
writing for. To better explain, pieces that I have seen with rediculous
altissimo don't stay in that register. There are a few passages there,
and the rest is in a relatively sane ( ^_^ ) register. So instead of
writing an entire separate part simply for a few passages, yadda yadda
yadda.

Of course, that's only speculation.
