Gary,

It seems to me that if you teeth are really sharp and cutting through
your mouthpiece patches, that a quick visit to a dentist could solve the
problem. I recently had my dentist smooth off the sharp edges from my
lower teeth, and this enables me to practice for much longer without
damaging my lower lip. A very thin (upper) mounded mouth guard is also a
solution I've heard about, although more expensive and probably quite
uncomfortable!

All my mouthpieces are fitted with soft rubber patches which I much
prefer to the thin harder variety. And a keep a small supply of spare
patches in case one falls to bits. Having used them for a few years now,
I really hate playing a mouthpiece without them!
