Just got my The Clarinet in the post today - loved the article on K622
(lets not get started on the basset thing again, hmmm? ^_^ ). However, my
particular question stems from the Debussy article. There is a picture (a
rather fuzzy one, at that) of our dear Claude with some clarinet...at
first I rejoiced; it appeared that the Ingenious Impressionist was holding
God's instr...uh, a bass clarinet. But...upon further inspection, it
appeared to be a bit...thin to be a bass. Not just the body, but the neck
and what is visible of the mouthpiece. Was Debussy a bassist (oh,
rejoice, heart of mine!)? Or is that a basset horn of the day? Or were
basses (or clarinets in general) thinner, or perhaps had thinner walls?

Or maybe the bass is just further back than it appears in the picture, and
so, it's like, perspective or something....
