I have the same edition. I would offer 2 suggestions. First, my
interpretation of David Hite's preface (fifth paragraph) is that he gives
tempo markings that are reasonable for mortal clarinet folk. The tempo
indications in Italian are vestiges of the original violin studies. I think
that is why I think the timing and the metronomic tempo markings coincide.
This also agrees with how I was taught the studies. My teacher was a
colleague of Bonade. Second, David Hite has been kind enough to
answer my emails in the past. Why don't you ask him directly. You can
email from his web site. Email me back and I'll look it up if you don't
have web access.
