|But we're not talking about when each company started selling clarinets!
|I'd say that Yamaha plays with the "big boys" now.

I would agree that Yamaha is a big player now, but, though I am trying to
avoid this media analogy, here it goes. In the US, there are the big 3
networks, NBC, CBS, and ABC. there are the 3 "upstarts" FOX, WB, and UPN.
Now, just because in the latest sweeps, FOX beat ABC, does that mean, FOX is
now promoted into the big 3 and ABC is out with the other "upstarts"? No!
Same with the Big 3 Car makers. and I say the same for the Big 3 Clarinet
makers.

I mean, there's no question, Yamaha is a big instrument maker. It may even,
possibly, have outsold or recieved more critical acclaim for it's latest
horn than Selmers' (or Leblanc or Buffet). but, it's still an upstart, and I
doubt the industry will readily accept a new member into the Big 3 so
easily.

Now, it'd be nice if the world wasn't so obsessed with rank and everyone and
everything was equal, but with idiot (um... bad choice of words. How about
lesser quality, for you fans out there of these companies) horn makers like
Vespro, Amati and Artley...

::sigh::
