Subj: [kl] Smears on tied notes
Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 20:25:40 -0400

Went to a used bookstore today, and picked up some used clarinet music for
cheap. One of them is Benny Goodman "Rhythm Hits for Clarinet" (Robbins
Music, copyright 1946). In the Tiger Rag, there's a measure with 3 tied G
quarter notes, with "smear" labeled under them. I don't have a recording of
this tune, so I can't listen to what that means. Help!

(8 bucks got the Goodman collection of 10 tunes, the Dinicu-Heifetz Hora
Staccato - like I'll _ever_ be able to play that!, the 1st clarinet part to
the Overture to Orpheus, and a Clarinet Quartet Album of 14 pieces arranged
by Skornicka & Rusch. Now I'm going to have to visit the big used book store
down in Detroit :^)

Cheers,
----
