If possible I try to find an area where there aren't a lot of people around
and play outdoors - or even in the rental car. Hotel front desks don't seem
to be too happy with guests playing musical instruments in their rooms -
unfortunately I have learned from experience. However, the sound really
does carry and it can be really annoying to people. One reason for the
plastic clarinet is to go outside somewhere and play.

My poor next door neighbors in my condo. In my unit we play clarinet,
piano, guitar, bass and recorder. Across the hall from my neighbor are two
girls attending a magnet music school - one plays cello and one plays
violin. Underneath the neighbor is a woman who plays clarinet in a
professional orchestra and for movie sessions -- and gives lessons.
Underneath my unit is a rock musician with a newly signed recording contract
practicing with his band for his next tour.

I try to be careful about the times that I practice. And in hotels the
sound seems to carry even more.
