"Resonite" is a trade name Selmer uses for their proprietary plastic. It
is a clever combination of "resin" (another name for plastic, currently in
vogue) and "resonate." Plastic materials are typically used for beginner
clarinets and oboes because of low cost and durability. They are also
great for marching since they are much less affected by the weather and
temperature variations.
