Dear Tris, If you will give us an idea of what's on the state list that you
can choose from, that will help us make recommendations. However, I do know
of a real contra solo written by Alfred Reed that's part of a 5 mvt work that
he did. Each mvt features a different member of the clarinet family----Eb,
Bb, alto, bass, and contra. It's called 5 Dances for 5 Clarinets. The
publisher is Marks Music. The contra solo is called Afro. He wrote another
solo for contra called Scherzo Fantastique, but it's not part of the suite.
Probably you're going to end up doing a bass solo on contra--let us know what
difficulty level, or grade, and we can suggest some stuff. Hope this helps!
