Many people get their clarinets replated when they get worn. The difference
between
nickel and silver is not prohibitive (roughly $100 difference when I checked
about 4 years ago).
The costliest part of a replating job is the fact that they must remove all
the keys from the
instrument and strip the keys. So you have to pay for all new pads, new key
corks, and
new springs. And of course the instrument is unavailable to play for
several weeks. But
if one has a professional horn that they like, it is worthwhile to do. It's
much cheaper than
new instrument.
