Jessica -

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "fuzzy", but recently I changed
mouthpieces and reed strength (Vandoren V-12 2 1/2 to 3), to correct what
could be called a "fuzzy" tone in the lower register of both my A & Bb
horns. My tone was becoming too "woody" or coarse. Maybe great for jazz
or as we called it years ago - a good "gut-bucket" tone.

I changed to Woodwind K10M mouthpieces for both horns mainly because the
mpcs. were provided by Leblanc with my Concertos. Also, I'm doing the
unconventional practice of using separate mouthpieces because (as posted
earlier), for whatever reason, the mouthpieces supplied by Leblanc, simply
work better on the horns that they were shipped with. I'm not necessarily
recommending the K10M mpc. They are better for me right now, but I'm in the
market for a better mpc/barrel setup this Summer

I've come to the conclusion that my old 50 year old mouthpiece was too
"open" to give me a good classical tone. Great for a Tchaikowsky fff, but
poor for a Mozart of Beethoven fff. Maybe your mpc. is too open.

As you may have noted from earlier postings, I am a retired old retread who
has been back to the clarinet for about 3 years now, so I have been
revisiting many of the student problems that I had
50 years ago. So it is easy for me to identify with the student problems
that are discussed regularly here on the list.
