OK, this is the last time I put on my doctor's coat. Your right about
everything except one point. It is a fallacy that you can't become infected
with the same virus twice. Some viruses give life long immunity, such as
chicken pox (varicella), mononucleosis, etc. But our immune system doesn't
do as good a job on others, immunity lasting a few years for some or even
just a few weeks for others, so disinfecting old reeds that were played when
you were sick always makes good sense. Of course if it's not the holy grail
of reeds why not just throw the damn thing out.
