Henk, I played a low C bass clarinet for 25 years and, in my opinion,
there are no musical disadvantages that derive from the fact that
its body is longer. There is one physical disadvantage and that
is due to the fact that I am short and, in order to be comfortable
playing it, I needed a higher-than-normal chair to that I could
reach the mouthpiece without stretching. Actually I did not need
the higher chair but could have played the instrument without a peg.
I prefer a peg and thus used a seat cushion to elevate me.
