Craig -

We don't need more spending, we need a hell of a lot LESS spending. If
some dollars actually materialize out of the supposed surplus, the funds
should be used to REDUCE taxes, so that the American worker can keep more
of his own, hard earned money.

Second, surplus funds (again, if any) should be used to begin the
privatization of Social Security (that fraudulent "Ponzi Scheme") so that
you young bucks will be able to build up retirement funds that will bring a
much better retirement to your generation than we present retirees have.

I imagine that given the number of teachers on the list, that you will
receive a lot a replies that say, "Spend more on education." Well, just
look at the disastrous results of the multi-billions that have been thrown
at the so-called education problem since the Federal government began
sticking its nose into education. (An entire library would be required to
fully discuss this Federal folly.)

It was said many years ago that "Them as can, do; them as can't, teach."
To this, I add, "Them as can't teach, become highly paid school
administrators, who run the schools for their own and the teachers' benefit
- to HELL with educating the students."

The money saved by reducing the number of school administrators by 20% to
30% and putting the salary scales of the remaining administrators in line
with salaries in the private sector for comparable management skills (if
any), would provide more than enough funds to restore the many music and
arts programs that have been reduced or abandoned over the years, and leave
plenty left over to increase the salaries of teachers in accordance with
their degrees of excellence.

I realize that I am a cynical old bastard, but my nearly 70 years of
observing America's problems have given me an insight that you younger
folks have yet to earn.

I'll sign off, before I write one of the books for the above mentioned
"library".

You must be an outstanding young clarinetist and student. Since we live so
close, I would like to meet you. Maybe we can get together for pizza
sometime.
