My Rovner ligatures also dug a groove in my mouthpiece even though I only used
it for a year. It's obvious that the scratch/groove was cut by the screw in
the gap between the posts that hold the screw to the ligature.

One of the big strengths of the Rovner is that you can "slant" it forward or
backwar to match the response pattern of various reeds. I found I most often
pushed the top (screw) part downward. Since this was toward the thicker
portion of the mouthiece, it forced the screw downward and when I tightened
it, it dug into the mouthpiece.

I can't imagine any harm has been done. I certainly dont notice any difference
in playing qualities.

I recently switched to the BG Revelation Ligature, which seems to have the
same benefits of the Rovner, while allowing a more (subjective term
forthcoming) focused sound and more volume without forcing.

I would be nterested in comments/opinions from others who use the BG
ligatures.
