It's not so radical. Leblanc USED to sell a triple that was the same
size--or at least not very much bigger--than their double case. When I
ordered one, however, they had put it on steroids . . .

I had a HUGE triple and finally sold it. Just too awkward. Now here's what
I
did instead...

I took my old Buffet double case (very well made) and entirely GUTTED the
inside... And with much careful planning, was able to lay out an interior
that fit ALL THREE clarinets in the same space as the double!!

That's right. Some space savers were: Vertical barrels. The little holes
take up a lot less space than laying them flat (was able to fit three large
ones and the bitty Eb one in that way). Also, junk laid out in the music
compartment instead of a junk-space in the main part of the case. Music
goes
in the case cover. Oh, also the bells are left loosely on the lower joints
of
the Bb and A. Not a great thing, but a compromise.

Good upholstery fabric and foam-core board are the tricks to the interior.
Pay lots of attention to how the old one was upholstered as you take it
apart.
This will help guide how to re-upholster the new interior after you've
shaped
it.

It was all in all a very tedious pain-in-the-butt job, but well worth the
results. I have all three horns on my back in a case the size of a double!
:) I love it.

Teri Herel.
