Many of the most popular recording soloists today use vibrato quite freely
on all kinds of music - classical, romantic, impressionistic,
contemporary, etc. etc. etc. The days in which the vibrato is used mostly
in popular [music] clarinet playing in the US are gone. Orchestral
players still tend to play with much less vibrato than those who solo, but
vibrato can be heard in most recordings by all US symphony orchestras
releasing CD's.
