If you get spiral binding, the store ought to be able to put clear plastic
covers on for about a buck.

Same thing I do. May I also suggest replacing the front paper covers
with something more sturdy at the same time? The front covers of
the books get the most wear and tear and will slowly rip out of the
spiral binding.
