The half-hole technique is extremely useful on the soprano clarinet,
too--there is no tab, of course, so you literally have to "half-hole" the
left index finger.

AHA! Being mostly self-taught you don't always learn this stuff. I am
going to have to try my alto out when I get home. I have never been very
successful with the higher notes on alto. Now I have a fighting chance. I
always wondered why that hole was there...I guess it is like oboe.
