I also use a Rovner. It makes that scuff on the back of mine as well,
except I have been using it for awhile and it is now a dip more than a
scuff. I don't think there's any way around it because even if you
*barely* tighten it it will make contact with the mp.
I don't believe that it makes much difference to the sound. I have not
noticed any changes since before the Rovner, so other than the loss of
aesthetic value, I don't think it makes a difference. Still, I am only
an amateur, and if anyone has a different story, join the conversation.
MP scuffs are second compared to finding the perfect reed, and the Holy
Grail.
