I think it does hold up. While the basic fingerings have been around well
over a century, flautists and oboe players gravitated to them pretty early
on (with the exception of a few German schools), while the "Boehm" type
system for the clarinet has been the undisputed standard for less than 75
years. This thread began as an observation about the lack of vision of
manufacturers, and I just suggested that this also applied to some clarinet
players - with the important exemption of anyone on this list!
