I hope that Mark's brilliant note will suffice to show that the
very presence of the basset clarinet has generated a number of
works for it. Not as many as would be generated were it a regular
member of the clarinet section of an orchestra, but not so bad for
a newcomer on the block.
To the party who suggested that the basset clarinet was an 18th
century relic useful on for Mozart's music, I give "La grand
cheer du Bronx": phhhtttttttthhhhhhhhhhh! Your mother wears army
boots, sir.
