Responding to the posts several days ago on the recording of the Rose
etudes with piano accompaniments, I sent the following e-mail to the
Yamaha people:

Dear Yamaha folks,

There has been considerable talk on the Klarinet Internet listserv (an
electronic discussion group of about 600
clarinetists worldwide) concerning the recording of the Rose Clarinet
etudes by Kazuo Fujii, clarinet, and Sachiko
Fujii, piano (ALM Records, ALCD 7043-7044). A writer on the listserv
said that he purchased these CDs last year
from a Yamaha representative at the International Clarinet Association
(ICA) convention in Lubbock, Texas.
Clarinetists have indicated interest in purchasing these CDs--will you
please bring some to the Columbus meeting
and sell them at your display table in the Exhibit Hall?

I have an additional request: many teachers are interested in obtaining
the piano accompaniment parts to these
etudes. (The Rose studies are some of the most widely used studies in the
clarinet literature, and having piano
accompaniments to them would be really terrific). The information on the
listserv is the following: Rose 40 Etudes,
Piano accompaniments composed by Tomoyo Okada, ARUSO Publishing,
4200 Yen; Rose 32 Etudes, Piano
accompaniments composed by Mariko Mogi, ARUSO Publishing, 3800
Yen; available at Yamaha-Ginza, phone
03-3572-3136; fax 03-3572-3794. As most clarinetists in the US will not
be going to the Ginza in Tokyo anytime soon
to visit your shop there, and as I don't know how easy it is to call the
Yamaha store in Tokyo and write a check in Yen,
would you please consider bringing copies of these piano
accompaniments to the ICA conference as well? I am
interested in obtaining both the CDs and the piano accompaniments, and I
know that many of my colleagues are
interested in these materials as well.

Thank you very much!

I received a reply today (5/14/98) from Yahama representative Kurt Witt,
who indicated that last year Mr. Fujii brought those CDs over to the ICA
convention himself for resale. Yamaha doesn't have any involvement with CD
distribution or sales unless it is something that the artist wishes to sell at the booth
himself (or herself). Yamaha does not intend to have any of these CD's
available at the Yamaha booth this year. Witt suggested that we should contact a
Japanese colleague and have them bring some over. He did not reply to my
request concerning purchasing the piano accompaniments.

Thought the klarinetters would like to know . . .

See you in Columbus!
