Because different barrels change the sound of the instrument (and in many
cases the intonation). I have a Clark Fobes barrel that I think improves
the sound of my instrument (R-13). I tried it recently on a Buffet
Festival and it made an even bigger (positive) difference.

Okay, so call me weird. I understand why people get better mouthpieces. But
when would you need a different barrel and what is the difference between
barrels? (i.e. size, shape, quality, etc.)
