I have a Dupont hard rubber C clarinet. It is about 3" shorter than a Bb, has
a stubby barrel, but uses a Bb mouthpiece (or at least "can" use a Bb
mouthpiece). I restored mine to playing condition and it plays generally in
tune and with a good tone. My plan was to use it to play duets with a flutist
friend and not have to transpose. But I simply don't enjoy playing the C as
much as the Bb. It's not "fun" like the Eb (a.k.a. "eefer") and not as mellow
and rich as the Bb. When I play the C clarinet, it is apparent to me why the
Bb version of our favorite instrument is the standard.
