Lauren,
What do you intend to happen in your clarinet career? Are you taking
lessons? That is the most important thing you can do for your "clarinet
career."

You may benefit from playing an alto or bass clarinet especially, if you
are in a higher level band because of it. However, it is important to keep
up your soprano clarinet playing. If you do end up playing something
besides soprano clarinet in school, look for someplace else to play it like
a youth orchestra, community band, etc.

Also if you play alto or bass clarinet in the band, be sure you or the
school gets a good mouthpiece. Many schools have reasonably good bass
clarinets but good alto clarinets are harder to find (or are too expensive
for schools to buy).

Hello all!
I receintly auditioned for my high school wind ensemble (if it makes any
difference, I will be attending Churchill High School in Livonia, MI).
Anyways, the director asked me if I would be willing to concider (should
the need arise) playing alto or bass clarinet, if no more needed soprano
clarinets were needed. If this decision were to decide also my placement
(either wind ensemble and an alto or bass clarinet, or the lower level
symphony band and my soprano clarinet), should I play the alto or bass?
Will it affect my clarinet career at all?
