The warping I have been discussing has nothing to do with the
tip......after the reed is thoroughly soaked, the tip will be perfectly
flat.

The issue is the body of the reed.....specifically the flat side......as
it sits on the mouthpiece. If the reed is warped convex, then the reed
will rock on the surface of a flat table mouthpiece. When the ligature is
tightened and pulls the reed tight against the flat table, the reed will
pop up microscopically .....in the shape of the warp (very unevenly I
might add) and cause the reed to blow very strangely.
